Tourism in these outback towns is difficult. Many of the towns are dying as the younger generation moves towards the cities but occasionally we come across something that is a bit different and so Australian. Here in Condobolin it is artwork called Utes in the Park, a 100m long road with different old utes decorated by artists from all over Australia including one by our favourite Australian artist John Murray. There was the Vegemite ute, the Bundaburg Rum ute, the battered ute that had spent its whole life taking food out to livestock etc. All in all a fantastic collection and a great tourist attraction.
Next stop was Lake Cargelligo. A great little country town. We try to swim wherever we can. Sometimes rivers, often the sea but here they had a super olympic size swimming pool. A day ticket cost $2 and we had the pool to ourselves. It never ceases to amaze us what excellent sporting facilities there are in this country. No wonder the Australians do well in sport generally.
