We drove the last 100 miles towards Hay across a billiard table flat landscape. It is reputed to be the flatest area on the planet, just miles of nothing in all directions. We don't know who decides these things but it is definitely eerily flat. The only thing of interest we come across is the One Tree Hotel. It was built in 1862 and was a staging post for the Cobb and Co. stagecoaches. It was named after a loan gumtree that was growing in a freshwater well nearby. The building stands alone on the skyline some 38kms from Hay.

We often tell our Waveney Campers customers that you don't have to stay in your campervan all the time. There is no reason why you can't have a night or two in a hotel. Today for the first time we took our own advice. With temperatures not dropping below the high twenties at night we booked into a motel with aircon. Hay is a reasonably sized town that has again got a great swimming pool that is actually free to all every day. You just can't beat that.
