Streaky Bay

Three great days parked on the beach at Streaky Bay. We spent a day driving round a scenic drive, Tractor Beach first and then coffee whilst watching (through binoculars) the surfers way out from the granite outcrop surfing in on some huge waves. The surfers where we were are all in touch by mobile phone and within half an hour of us being there word got round that there were some good waves so an assortment of beaten up 4x4's and campervans turn up with some beaten up Aussie surfers in them ready to catch some waves.

It is Valentines Day and our meal cooked on the beach consisted of fresh oysters to start followed by fillets of King George whiting, saute potatoes and asparagus washed down with a bottle of chilled rose wine from Chateau Dorian purchased in the Barossa.

Rested we set off to start crossing the Nullabor, that endless road across the bottom of Australia. Fuel and provisions at Ceduna and then our first nights stop, although some 20kms off route, is at the excellent Fowlers Bay. An eco campsite right on the foreshore with a great old jetty and a rough beach. The perfect stop. It is good to support these places. Water is filtered through sand and electricity is all solar. Sadly some people prefer to camp outside the camp gates for free and even sadder this place is for sale. People in these out of the way places find it hard to make a living.
