Sunshine Coast Hinterland

The Hinterland is an area that runs inland behind the trendy bars, restaurants and bikinis of the Sunshine Coast. Within a few kilometres of the coast the countryside changes to quaint villages and rainforest lined roads. We tend to go to the beach during the day and then come inland to camp at night. We spent a day at Noosa and Noosa Heads, one of the jewels in the crown of the Sunshine Coast and it really is quite impressive – a mixture of The French Riviera and California – and we found a great little beach for sunbathing and swimming.

We went inland to spend the night at Eumundi. It is a highland village with a quirky new age vibe. Perhaps just one or two many ponytails about but a great little place. It’s been made famous by its markets started back in the 1980’s. They are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can spend the night in the town car park for $10 and that also includes your days parking for the market. – and what a market. The whole town is taken over. Every street has stalls plus there are some permanent structures and they don’t just sell your cheap Spanish stuff. There really are some quality things to be had. We spent quite a bit of the day Christmas shopping. Still find it strange when it is 30 plus degrees.

We stayed a second night at Eumundi and had a great meal at the hotel on the main street. It’s a huge Queensland style wooden building with an upstairs verandah where we ate al fresco.
