We managed to last 3 days at Wurumu Dam before our battery failed us but it’s time to head to the beach. We spent the day mostly on outback tracks and headed east through some of the small outback towns of the North Burnett region and then it’s Monto, Mount Perry, Rosslyn and then across the remote Goodnight Scrub national park to Biggenden where we overnighted. This is real cattle country and hundreds of cows and calves roam at the side of the track.
We hit the coast at Hervey Bay which is quite a large tourist town but we fancied seeing a few shops and people. There are three campsites on the seafront and we picked the middle one and got a super spot overlooking the huge bay. This sort of place is not our normal favourite but we quite like it – good swimming, shops and restaurants – so we stayed for two nights. At $43 a night you can tell you’ve hit the Sunshine Coast.
