Today we chose a small minibus for our trip although there were only four of us and we had a very impressive driver/tour guide. Christchurch had a devastating earthquake in 2011 killing 185 people but unless you visit it is hard to imagine the devastation that exists today. There are some great monuments to remember the people affected by the earthquake including 185 white chairs situated next to the building where 115 people died. There was a temporary church made from cardboard and a whole shopping area where the shops are in shipping containers which will now probably stay for ever. The boat was moored some way from Christchurch as since the earthquake the harbour has been too shallow to allow the cruise ships in. The drive over was quite stunning.
